27 May Seeking Success? Why You Need To Be “A Dog With A Bone”
When you know, you know. That’s the way it is with love.
And from the moment I laid eyes on this guy 14 years ago, I was 100% smitten.
On today’s Jacquie Straight Up, I’m introducing you the undisputed love of my life: Spencer Somerville who turns 14 years old on Friday!
From the highs to the lows and everything in between, he’s been my constant, loyal companion.
And the really amazing thing is this birthday boy has some pretty cool things to teach us, particularly when it comes to the power of love, commitment, and the magic of persistence.

A determined Jack Russell Terrier, Spencer was born to hunt. All his life, he has pursued his purpose with relentless persistence, and regardless of the day’s outcomes, he never gives up.
Spencer’s persistence often results in success — which is a lesson all unto itself. But, even more importantly, he never allows his failures to prevent him from hunting the very next day…and the next…and the next!
Spencer never — I mean never — lets up (until I drag him in for his dinner). And when it comes to your goals and dreams, neither should you.
Remember, a river doesn’t carve through rock because of its strength. It carves through rock because of its persistence.
And here’s the sobering truth: when you quit on the path to your dream because it gets too rough, chances are you are quitting on the verge of a breakthrough.
So today, I encourage you — no matter your situation — to be like Spencer. Be like a “dog with a bone” when you’re pursuing your purpose and going after your goals. Adapt, adjust, but never give up.
