04 Feb How to shrug off the critics, naysayers, & haters in your life
This week’s “Jacquie Straight Up” topic is a juicy one, and you may be shocked that I’m even comfortable talking about it. Here’s the deal…
Recently, I was the recipient of a rather vengeful email. It read:
You are a f*#*ing joke. The only reason you have a pot to piss in is because you scored a huge settlement…” (And it went on…)
WOW. Can you say “nasty?” There is no doubt about it, I have a bit of a hater out there. (Be sure to watch the video to get more of the gritty details.)
So why am I sharing all of this with you? Because there is a big lesson to be learned: it is how we react to criticisms and how we deal with our critics that determines whether we sink or swim.
Watch and you’ll discover the key message I’m hoping you’ll take away from today’s video: do not allow the prejudices and the judgements of others to determine YOUR destiny.
Here are my top three tips for shrugging off any critics, naysayers, or haters in your life (I go deeper in my video blog, but here’s the summary):
- Turn it around. Criticisms and judgements have absolutely nothing to do with the judgee, and everything to do with the one doing the judging.
- Critics are cowards. It takes courage and guts to put yourself out there and go after your dreams. It takes ZERO courage to be a critic.
- Take responsibility. We are 100% responsible for our own lives. It is your past, your present, and future.
So my friend, when you are the recipient of criticisms and judgements, remember to stay true to yourself, be real, and do what is in your heart. Fly in the face of the naysayers, and don’t give a rat’s ass what anyone thinks or says about you!
It would be a crying shame if we let small and unhappy people destroy our destiny. Success, after all, is the best revenge…
Please let me know what you think of today’s topic — I’d love to hear about your own experiences with negative people, and how you choose to deal with them.
