09 Aug Be Great
I spent this past weekend in the presence of greatness.
I attended a training seminar delivered by three men at the top of their games. Roger Love is arguably the best voice coach in the world – from M&M to Madonna and from Reese Witherspoon’s Oscar-winning performance in Walk the Line to Jeff Bridges’ Oscar-winning performance in Crazy Heart – you name it, he’s coached them all. The man is brilliant, funny, and genuine.
Then there was Bo Eason – NFL star safety in the 80’s, and writer and performer of one of the best one-man plays ever produced, “Runt of the Litter.” The man is intense and personifies dedication and excellence.
Brendon Burchard rounded out the threesome. He is an Internet marketing genius, a New York Times bestselling author, and the highest paid motivational trainer in the world.
Like I said – greatness!
Let’s forget about the fact that the seminar was called “World’s Greatest Speaker Training” because I learned stuff that is applicable to life and success regardless of one’s passion or career. Take these lessons to heart and you will change your life – and they come from three people who prove it. Here are my top three powerful takeaways:
1. Be committed to mastery and that means practice. Practice relentlessly with the goal of being the best. Studies have shown that what separates those at the top of their game from the rest is something quite simple – simple but not easy – practice.
2. Exude confidence by realizing the importance of physicality. You have to be able to communicate with your body. Stand tall and strong and move with purpose. When you move with purpose, you will collide with destiny.
3. Be your authentic self – really, truly, always. There is only one of you in ALL of time. Work at being the best you that you can be. Don’t block that from the world. It would be a crying shame if you did.
I also learned a new definition for the word Generosity: “the art of giving all of oneself all of the time” and all three of these guys live by this definition. They left nothing on the stage. They gave us all they had – their very best – and we felt it.
Be your best, give your best, and practice, practice, practice.
I send you much love,
JS
