Welcome to this week’s broadcast of Jacquie Straight Up, the place to be if you want to live a kick-ass life of wealth and freedom. I love the subject of this week’s video – it’s all about the power of HUGS!! There are some amazing stats about hugs that you may not know about – I was totally blown away when I started looking into this. Research shows that deep hugs are extremely effective at healing sickness, disease, loneliness, stress, anxiety and depression! It’s incredible! Here’s the thing, hugs instantly boost oxytocin levels – the “love” neurotransmitter that promotes feelings of contentment. When oxytocin is released into the body it lowers the heart rate and lowers stress levels and blood pressure. The oxytocin also causes the release of dopamine – our body’s own natural antidepressant. And holding a hug for an extended time raises our mood and happiness level! The bottom line is hugs are darn good for you! When it comes to relationships, the nurturing touch of a hug builds trust and gives us a sense of safety. It encourages empathy and understanding. Happy couples hug a lot!
I have to tell you a quick story of the most monumental hug of my life: I met a handsome young guy in a grocery store back in 2012 – and after a lot of flirting he asked me if I’d like to get together that evening to have some fun! Well of course! Why would I say no to that! But when he buzzed my door bell I suddenly thought “Oh my Gosh, what on earth am I going to do with this young guy and what did we even have in common?” Turns out my concern was completely unfounded. I opened the door and he stood there with this huge smile on his beautiful face. He opened his big arms and embraced me with an emotional hug so intense it was as though we had known each other our whole lives. I knew in that moment that the evening would unfold as it should, and I knew that this man was unique—his soul was special. I melted into him. It was that awe-inspiring hug that connected us from that fist moment and all our differences faded away. And 8 months later we were married.
So remember to hug big and hug often – It can improve your health, your mood, your happiness and just may change your life! Posted at 01:57h, 04 AugustSo true. I am not generally a affectionate person but my children who I teach and are special needs have taught me we all need a hug. When I welcome them off the bus every morning they run into my arms for a hug. What a wonderful feeling.
