24 Mar FEELING DOWN? WHY YOU NEED TO STOP FIGHTING IT.
I have no video for you today ’cause I have a nasty cold — I don’t feel good, I look bad, and I sound even worse!
It pisses me off when I get colds because I eat my fruits and vegetables, I’m healthy, I work out every day, and I take my vitamins! So I’m like, “What the hell?”
Then I remember what my own life coach taught me many years ago and what I know to be true:
When you get minor bugs or short bouts of depression, it’s the Universe stopping you in your tracks and demanding that you take a break.
When you think back to the times that you’ve been slayed by a bug, isn’t it usually when “you can least afford to be sick?” In other words, at those times when life is particularly stressful or frenetic, and you think you really need to be on your game?
What you really need is to take heed and take a break.
If your ailment is minor like a cold or a mild dose of the blues, look at it as a blessing. Handle it this way:
Indulge. Wallow. Chill. Sleep a lot. Watch TV and movies. See it as necessary downtime. Listen to your body — it’s telling you something. Listen. Take the time to feel better. Trust yourself.
So if you are struggling with a bug or with a dose of the temporary blues, don’t fight how you feel. We don’t only catch viruses from time to time, but we must also contend with hormonal swings, phases of the moon, seasons, weather, etc…and that’s OK. It’s life.
Don’t fight it because as I have said before, “What we resist persists.” “Fighting” is like declaring war on your own body and resisting an important message from the Universe. It will only intensify the problem.
If you struggle with the blues consistently (or if you are sick with more than the common cold or a minor dose of flu) then seek help right away. If, however, you get a dose occasionally, don’t sweat it. You’re human. Allow yourself some wallowing time within reason, and chances are, you’ll be back on the top of your game sooner than if you don’t.
So I am off to watch a Scandal marathon on Netflix and I will see you back on video next week minus the red face and stuffy nose!
Take care of yourself and wallow if you need to! (And please remember to share this with those who may benefit.)
Sending love and strength,
Jacquie
