WHAT IF THIS WAS YOUR LAST YEAR??

How would you live each day if you had just one more year on earth? This simple question was presented to me in an educational DVD this week and it’s a life-changer.

We hear the old “live each day as if it were your last” cliché all the time, but I don’t think that one makes much sense. We would probably spend our last day with loved ones, eating ice cream and saying “screw-it” to all the good habits that require discipline and a bit of hard work. But to live each day as if you had one last year on earth? Wow. Think about it. And let’s assume for the purpose of this exercise that you are healthy and able-bodied for this hypothetical “last year.”

You would most likely go about achieving some major goals so that you don’t leave the earth with regret. You would most likely go about getting your message out to the world, living your purpose and loving without fear. I bet you would get spiritually connected, do what you could to help others, and do what you needed to do to fill your soul.

When it came to business or career, I bet you would never again be paralyzed by fear of rejection or fear of failure. You would go for it. You would make it happen. You would be a big success. You’d write the book or the screenplay and solicit the big clients. I bet you would stop watching TV, and I bet you wouldn’t waste another minute waiting to get fit and healthy because you would want to feel your best and be your best for your last year on earth.

At least that’s how I have interpreted this hypothetical scenario. I would live the year so that I would die without regret. I would do what I needed to do to accomplish some major goals now. Those goals are in all categories – personal, business, health and spirituality.

The Guardian recently published an article entitled “Top 5 Regrets of the Dying.” A palliative nurse, who counseled people in their last days, recorded their regrets. Regret #1? “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.”

WOW.

Write your Top 5 goals out for the balance of 2013. Robin Sharma calls them your “Big 5” – I love it! Then, every single day, write down and do 5 things that you need to do that day to get you closer to your Big 5. Do this as if you had one last year on earth. Give it a try. It is awesome.

My biggest wish for you is that you live your life so that when it’s all over, you have no regrets! Go for all you want to go for. Make it happen. You have what it takes–I know you do. And don’t wait. Do it now.

I send you all much love
